SUPPORTING FINANCE, RISK MANAGEMENT

AND INTERNAL AUDIT PROFESSIONALS

WHAT I DO

We are all experts in our own domains

From this expertise it is easy to decide what choices should be made. However, in reality especially experts have difficulty in getting stakeholders to accept their conclusions.

Are you such an expert? I can support you in the following ways:

  • Improving your reports. Your stakeholders will find it easier to understand your conclusions, this will save you valuable time and improve your efficiency.
  • Support you when you are planning your activities. You can gain time by doing things smarter. Get better results as two will always know more than one.
  • Practical support. Let me help you by making the first draft of your plan or report.

These are examples of how I have supported your peers are:

  • Revising and changing the Charter of an Audit Committee
  • Assessing the independence of Directors and employees
  • Preparing a manual for a Board of Supervisory Directors “What should I do before I approve the budget?”
  • Setting-up and reporting of various fraud investigations
  • Writing an Internal Audit Charter
  • Analysing the demands for a future-proof Internal Audit Department
  • Preparing of yearly Internal Audit Plans
  • Preparing of an Internal Audit Plan for a multi-year project

My own clients describe my support as “Advice on Demand”. Regardless of the distance, I am able to support them very quickly thanks to the use of modern technology. This will save time and unnecessary travel expenses.

WHO I AM

My name is Harro Ridt. I have worked at KPMG Audit for 21 years. I started at KPMG as youngest assistant. Ultimately, as senior manager, I was responsible for the coordination of an international audit team for one of Europe’s largest financial groups. In these 21 years, I have gained experienced in almost all industries.

In 1999, I qualified as Register Accountant (Certified Public Auditor) and from that moment on I have been registered as an Register Accountant.

After I left KPMG, I have worked 8 years with Ageas, the largest insurance group of Belgium and part of the Bel20 share-index. At Ageas, I have set up the Risk Management and Prudential reporting for the group.

Apart from this, I have supported my own clients at Harro Ridt Advies since 2010. Please refer to What I do for a description of my support.

Please find a description of me underneath.

Flexible

I have demonstrated a large flexibility in my work. I have the ability to adapt to new environments easily. Apart from my successful secondment to Belgium, I proved this by successfully specialising in Insurance, Asset Management, Leasing and Real Estate.

Business Focus

I am a client focussed professional. Both at Ageas and KPMG, I have been able to get a high client satisfaction and accommodate the wishes of my clients. My departure at KPMG led me to start up Harro Ridt Advies as a client did not want to lose my support.

Professionalism

I have demonstrated I have outstanding technical skills. I show that I am on top of the technical requirements by easily meeting the yearly requirements for permanent education and I am consulted by many for technical issues. Within Ageas, I was the model manager for Solvency II aggregation and the treatment of deferred tax within Solvency II.

Management experience

I am assessed as an excellent coach. My coaching evaluations show that I outperform all my peers in this area.

Linking pin

I am a binding force, I am able to manage big and complex projects, I maintain the necessary overview and I prioritise correctly. This is demonstrated by the successful projects at Ageas (e.g. QIS5) and the cross border team I have set up for the audit of Fortis Investment Management. In these kind of projects I have been a linking pin between the different expertises involved and have communicated with all local parties involved. Within the worldwide Fortis audit, I was the contact for the client and all local KPMG auditors (over 60 offices).

WHAT’S MORE…

Apart from my work as advisor, I am also committed to my local community.

I am treasurer of tennisclub Luck Raeck. The big issues that I am involved with are:

  • Scenario-analysis for the medium-long term
  • (Cost-)price analysis
  • Replacement of fixed assets (preparing business case and negotiating with suppliers and financers)
  • Replacement of software

I am club-referee for soccerclub Maarssen

I am member of the member-council of Rabobank Gooi- and Vechtstreek
